The combination of clear skies and light to calm winds will allow excellent radiational cooling tonight. Temperatures will drop into the lower to mid 30s. This will result in the formation of scattered frost by sunrise Sunday morning... mainly west of I-95.
Areas north and west of these locations have already had their first frost and freeze and thus the growing season has ended.
A freeze is defined as temperatures of 28 F or below while a frost is defined for temperatures between 29 F and 32 F.
Some things to keep in mind now that wintertime is approaching:
1. Disconnecting water hoses from outdoor faucets
2. Draining and storing water hoses
3. Turn-off and properly winterizing lawn irrigation systems
4. Checking home heating systems for safe and optimum performance
5. Checking carbon monoxide detectors, especially the batteries
6. Checking smoke detectors, especially batteries
7. Proper cleaning of wood burning chimneys including fire places and wood burning stoves
8. Checking to make sure that pets and livestock have plenty of fresh, unfrozen water and are properly protected from the cold
9. Check anti-freeze conditions in vehicles
10. Protecting tender vegetation
