When severe weather arrives, it is true that every second counts. If your in the path of a tornado... time is of the essence. Taking shelter from the storm can save your life.

You have a smoke detector to warn you of a fire... why not have a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Weather Radio to alert you and your loved ones to approaching severe weather. Officials estimate a (NOAA) all hazards weather radio may provide as much as eight minutes of lead time to take cover from the impending weather.

During an emergency, the radio will broadcast a special tone that activates the weather radio. NOAA then broadcasts warning and post-event information for all types of hazards.

Every home should have weather radio. Last year's tornado season was particularly active here across the coastal empire and low country... with 2 EF tornado's in Effingham county... a strong tornado in Tattnall county... and a particularly dangerous EF-4 tornado in McIntosh county on Mother's Day.

A weather radio provides instant access to the same weather reports and emergency information that meteorologists and emergency personnel use. This information can save your life, or the life of someone you love. A weather radio also broadcasts around-the-clock weather reports and information to help prepare for the day ahead.
