Research published yesterday in the journal Nature Geoscience indicates that over the last fifty years the percentage of global CO2 emissions that remained in the atmosphere annually was close to 43%... and that during this time the percentage has likely risen from 40% to 45%... with the rest of the CO2 concentration being absorbed by the planet's land and ocean sinks.
According to the international team of scientists... this suggests a decrease in the efficiency of earth's natural sinks to respond to this increased emission.
According to the study... CO2 emissions from the burning of fossil fuels increased by......
2 percent between 2007 to 2008.
29 percent between 2000 and 2008.
41 percent between 1990 and 2008.
And additional interesting note... CO2 emissions from emerging economies like China and India have more than doubled since 1990. Developing countries now emit more greenhouse gases than developed countries.
