Nothing, absolutely nothing. It has been a quiet hurricane season so far, but things are starting to fire up.
Latest observations show several disturbances have developed, and there is one that could grow into a tropial depression. There's an area of low pressure near the Cape Verde Islands. This is what could become a tropical depression within just hours. If this does develop into something more, this disturbance could reach the Bahamas toward the end of next week and then pose a threat to the East Coast. So YES, we are watching it closely.
This late start to the hurricane season isn't completely unheard of. It happened this way even back in 1980, when the first tropical storm didn't form until August 2nd. Just eight days later, this storm slammed into South Texas. It was Hurricane Allen, which reached Category 5 strength at one time.
It just goes to show that a late start doesn't mean a slow season. Stay tuned for the very latest updates from STORM TEAM 3.
