Flooding, golf ball sized hail, downed trees and powerlines...yesterday's storms wreaked havoc for many in the Lowcountry and Coastal Empire.
Even one man in Burton got struck by lightning.
According to the Island Packet, Burton firefighters got word just before 4p.m. that a man told Beaufort County dispatchers he had been struck by lightning near a home on Lawson Road near Laurel Bay.
Burton Fire District Chief Harry Rountree says the man was conscious and alert and talking with dispatchers shortly after notifying authorities.
Burton firefighters also responded to two reports on lightning striking homes.
It was an active night for many, and today folks have been cleaning up.
Well here at WSAV News 3, we too took a hit. We lost power during the 6 o'clock newscast...this means the lights went out while we were on the air. The generator kicked in, but this doesn't always solve every problem. Then during My Lowcountry 3, which runs from 7-8p.m., we had no studio lights. For the rest of the night, our phones wouldn't work, several computers were down...even our gates didn't work!
It was a mess.
So on Tuesday, our engineers have been working like crazy to get everything back up and running.
And if you click on the link below, I will take you a behind the scenes tour and show you just what all is affected.
