Millions of Americans will buy a Christmas tree this year. You may have already bought one yourself.
Well, weather conditions can make a tree healthy and safe.
Drought is the worst condition for Christmas trees because the trees would generally be unhealthy. Needles would fall more and create a mess. There is also a high fire danger with dry trees.
The southeastern Rockies and southern Plains have been the worst areas for tree growers this year due to the drought conditions. The drought killed thousands of trees in Texas and Oklahoma. Many farmers have had to import trees from North Carolina.
On the flip side, too much rain can also be a problem for Christmas tree growers. In areas where it has been very wet, it is hard to gather the Christmas trees due to a muddy mess. It's also hard to use equipment if the ground it too wet.
