Temperatures are just beginning to drop, so it seems kind of strange to be thinking about snow.
But following last January's disastrous ice storm that shut down most of metro Atlanta's road grid for about five days...sometimes you have to prepare this far in advance.
Georgia has spent more than $2.5 million to be as prepared as possible for future winter storms.
The state plans to use more snow plows and other equipment and better coordination.
See last year...critics say state and local agencies didn't plan and coordinate well enough. But the state Department of Transportion said it did all it could in the face of an enormous and unusual storm.
DOT plans to replace worn-out equipment and increase its fleet of snow plows and spreaders by about 15 to 20 percent. The department also plans to add more storage locations for the salt and gravel mixture.
The Department have a computerized map that all officials can look at which shows the top priority roads and locations for ice and snow clearance.
But DOT stresses that some issues still remain.
