Tuesday, November 25, 2008 – Armed with ribbon, wrapping paper and plenty of holiday spirit, local volunteers soon will gather to wrap and deliver hundreds of gifts for isolated and forgotten seniors in Chatham, Beaufort and Jasper counties. Santa will join volunteers to deliver gifts beginning Thursday, Dec. 11. It’s all part of the annual “Be a Santa to a Senior” program, sponsored by Home Instead Senior Care in Savannah and Hilton Head Island.
A wrapping party is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 2, 10 a.m., at Generation One in Market Walk, 7135 Hodgson Memorial Drive, in Savannah.
Hilton Head wrapping parties will be held Tuesday, Dec. 9, at Broadcreek Care Center, 801 Lemon Grass Court, and Wednesday, Dec. 10, at S.H.A.R.E., 6 Office Park Road.
Anyone interested in volunteering or donating wrapping supplies can call (912) 355-0099.
Home Instead Senior Care, whose caregivers provide companionship and non-medical home care to seniors, has partnered with several area merchants and senior care communities for the project. A nationwide program, “Be a Santa to a Senior” provides gifts and much-needed companionship to isolated and lonely seniors during the holidays.
Since Monday, Nov. 3, area shoppers have purchased gifts for seniors in need and dropped them off at participating merchant locations to be wrapped and delivered.
