ATLANTA (AP) - Georgia Power customers will pay less for electricity under the utility's Green Energy program through changes approved by the Public Service Commission.
The new tariff approved Tuesday by the PSC will allow consumers to buy 100 kilowatt blocks of Green Energy for $3.50, which is $1 lower than the old tariff.
Also approved was a large-volume purchase package that will let customers who buy at least 400 blocks under the standard plan to contract with Georgia Power for additional renewable energy at a reduced price, on a case by case basis.
The power comes from biomass, primarily from the Seminole Landfill in DeKalb County, but Georgia Power will offer a premium product at $4.50 per block with at least 2 percent from solar sources.
