»  Comments | Post a Comment

For the past 12 years the Epworth Players of the Epworth United Methodist Church, has produced stellar community plays in the heart of Savannah. Also doing quality plays in the Savannah, The Players by the Sea of Savannah State University provides students the opportunity to explore drama. For the first time these two companies are combining to present the historic poetic monologues written by James Weldon Johnson, God’s Trombones. Written by the author of the Lift Every Voice & Sing and one of the most prolific authors of the Harlem Renaissance, this play probes society and race relations. You’re invited to join us for great acting, wonderful live music, and a delicious dessert buffet on February 27, at 7PM. This exciting time will be held at the New Covenant Church (formerly Epworth UMC) located on the corner of Bull & 38th Streets. For more information visit our web site at NewCovenantSavannah.com.

‘God’s Trombones’ is a cultural experience for the whole family. The play is a series of poetic monologues speaking to the hopes and histories of African American and all people. The Epworth Players adopted the new name of the Epworth ‘Community’ Players to embrace the troops desire to emphasize its focus on quality community theatre. It’s next play ‘Dial M for Murder’ will begin casting in March and looks forward to a successful run. The Players by the Sea has been a mainstay of the Savannah State campus for years. Casted with students and directed by faculty from SSUs Kennedy School of Arts, the troop focuses on a wide variety of culturally expressive pieces that explore a wide variety of plays. In 2008 Epworth changed its name to New Covenant and is hosting this event as a way to reintroduce itself to the City of Savannah. Both play and buffet are free for children and students and only $5 for adults.

Come be our guest at God’s Trombones, a joint performance of the Epworth Community Players and Savannah State’s Players by the Sea on Friday March 27th at 7 PM.
