The Council for Arts and Academics at Savannah Christian Preparatory School is pleased to announce the performance of The Pirates of Penzance Junior, March 6th, 7th, and 8th at the Lucas Theatre, Savannah, GA. The cast is comprised of 84 incredibly talented third through twelfth grade students selected by audition especially for this production.
The Council for Arts and Academics began in the school parking lot where five moms began brainstorming about how to make it "cool" to be creative at Savannah Christian Preparatory School. 2009's production of The Pirates of Penzance Junior will be the sixth annual Broadway musical production for the council. The production team and 80+ parent volunteers make it possible. “It takes an army of committed people to continue fanning these flames of creativity,” said Amanda Dorman, SCPS Council for Arts and Academics.
Wacky, irreverent and as entertaining today as it was when it first opened in 1879, The Pirates Of Penzance Junior spins a hilarious farce of sentimental pirates, bumbling policemen, dim-witted young lovers, dewy-eyed daughters, and an eccentric Major-General, all of whom are morally bound to the often-ridiculous dictates of honor and duty. Performances will be held Friday, March 6th at 7pm, Saturday, March 7th at 7pm, and during a matinee on Sunday, March 8th at 3pm. Tickets are $8 and are on sale now at the SCAD Box office at 216 East Broughton Street, or call (912) 525-5050.
