Savannah has some of the better drivers in America, according to Allstate's new report. Out of 200 cities across the U.S., Savannah is ranked 96th on the Allstate America's Best Drivers Report.
Allstate looked at car accident statistics over the past five years for the report.
The company found the average Savannah driver will have an auto collision every 9 years, which means drivers are 9 percent more likely to have a crash than the national average.
People have mixed opinions about the safety of Savannah drivers.
"For the most part. I mean sometimes when it's bad weather I think people drive too fast like the rain, but otherwise I think it's pretty safe," said Elaine Hampton.
"I don't think it's safe because Savannah drivers they drive pretty careless out here to me. You know, I've been a lot of places, different states you know, and some of the drivers around here drive very careless and reckless to me," said Antonio Henry.
Allstate agent Jim Grusheski says Savannah's ranking has improved in the past five years.
"We're in the top half, still got some more work to be done. There are things that we can do, and what hopefully this study does is bring light to the fact that we do need to pay more attention when we're driving," said Grusheski.
But the ranking probably will not save you money.
"Can it affect rates? It can, but it's not going to be a direct correlation that if we move up next year, that everybody's rates are going to drop down. There's too many other factors that go into that, but it is a good, it's a positive step that's for sure," he said.
He reminds drivers to be more aware, and avoid distractions like cell phones and texting.
"Just driving smarter. You know, people cut you off. It gets infuriating, you almost want to 'Argh, go crazy.' But you know, let it slide," he said.
Other Georgia cities in the Allstate report include Augusta at 53. Columbus was next at 78. Savannah is ranked 96, while Atlanta came in at 148.
