72 year old Lucille Pelote is using her walker in her backyard. "I still like to get out here whenever I can," she tells me. These days Pelote's view is a long wire hanging down her fence line. "It's been like that since the fire," she says.
She says back in August, there was a fire in her neighbor's back yard and the wire apparently came down at that time. Since then, the wire has been wrapped around the fence in one place and is draped over the fence and touching it in several other places.
Pelote says the wire is connected to what looks like a power pole to her. "I had some boys who came here to do yard work but they wouldn't go anywhere near my fence," she says.
Pelote says she and her neighbors called several places, including Georiga Power and Comcast and were told the wire was not theirs. "They told all of us it was AT&T," Pelote tells me.
She says she then made numerous calls to the AT&T local repair line. "But no one ever came and no one ever called me back," she says.
Thursday, I contacted a public relations representative for AT&T in Atlanta and sent her pictures of the wire in Pelote's backyard. By Thursday afternoon, they emailed me saying they were trying to determine if the wire belonged to them.
Late Thursday afternoon, another email confirmed it was an AT&T wire. The email read in part " A local AT&T technician was able to visit the residence this afternoon, and we’ve now ordered a new cable wire to be installed upon arrival. We are continuing to take this matter seriously and will make every effort to replace the wire as quickly as possible."
The concensus from some officials is the cable wire may not be that dangerous but I was also told "you probably wouldn't want to touch it and having children messing around with it would definitely not be be a good idea."
No word from AT&T on why calls from the residents weren't enough to provide them with answers or a resolution. We'll keep you informed on what happens next.
