Dark Knight Review

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The latest installment of the Batman series has been making headlines for months, mostly due to the fact that "The Dark Knight" was Heath Ledger's final film before his untimely death.

The film has lots of compelling action sequences, as you'd expect.

It is an excellent continuation of Christian Bale and director-screenwriter Christopher Nolan's dark interpretation of the caped crusader which re-invented the iconic comic book hero with "Batman Begins".

Morgan Freeman returns as Batman's weapons expert.

This is a remarkable special effects film with an incredible flying sequence, in which Batman is fighting the usual suspects, at first, an international crime syndicate.

But there is nothing usual about the principal villain, the Joker, portrayed by the late Heath Ledger in a titanic performance.

He joins the mobsters in Gotham City because he understands his adversary's limits, and has no scruples of his own.

Along with Aaron Eckhart, Maggie Gyllenhaal co-stars as former girlfriend of Bruce Wayne, Batman's alter-ego.

Sir Michael Caine returns as Wayne's loyal butler Alfred.

This is a movie with thrilling sequences including one in which Batman, atop the Batpod, takes off to face the Joker head on.

"The Dark Knight" is an astonishing visual experience, especially in i-Max, and the script is intelligent too.

Christian Bale understands the demands of the role, and as for the late Heath Ledger, a likely posthumous Oscar nomination is deserved.
