A long list of Hollywood’s leading ladies have teamed up to remake the 1939 classic film 'The Women'.
In "The Women", a remake of the 1939 George Cukor directed classic, Meg Ryan is a Connecticut socialite whose husband (unseen, since no men appear in the movie) has been having an affair with a perfume saleswoman, portrayed by Eva Mendes.
The scorned woman's best friend is a tough magazine editor, Annette Bening, who always gives intelligent performances, even in chirpy drivel like this.
Other friends are expectant mother Debra Messing and a gay friend, Jada Pinkett Smith.
Interesting cast, no? And deserving of something which isn't a continuation of stereotypes of gossipy women all talking at once.
And the confrontation between her pals and the other woman is just predictable.
Movie critic Jeffrey Lyons said, “The Women" is annoying when it should've been breezy, superficial when it should've at least been fresh and even exciting, chirpy and bordering on silly and shrill when it might've been an homage to the original classic. More's the pity, since this is a great cast wasted.
