The film industry's gathered to honor its brightest stars at the 81st Academy Awards Sunday in Hollywood.
For Hollywood a-listers, walking the Oscars' red carpet may be routine, but for first-time nominee and comeback favorite Mickey Rourke.
"I’m a little hungry right now," said Rourke.
And for best actress nominee Melissa Leo it's a whole new experience.
"My feet aren't quite on the ground," said Leo.
The experience was even more exciting and overwhelming for the child actors of best picture favorite "Slumdog Millionaire".
It's their first time outside India.
The film's adult stars were aware of the pressure.
"Whatever happens happens. Fingers crossed. Whatever happens, it'll be a special experience," said actress Frieda Pinto.
Penelope Cruz took home the first major award of the evening, winning best supporting actress Oscar.
As predicted, Heath Ledger won the award for best supporting actor, for his role as "the joker" in "The Dark Knight".
Best animated feature film honors went to the robot romance "Wall-E".
And Dustin Lance Black, writer of "Milk", won the Oscar for best original screenplay.
During his acceptance speech, he spoke passionately about the importance of gay rights.
This year's show has a few format changes, including Hugh Jackman as host, a more musical feel, and multiple presenters in some cases, instead of just two.
