It was barely three months ago that Jay Leno said farewell to the Tonight Show.
"That seems like ten years ago," said Leno.
Maybe because there've been near constant reminders about his move to primetime.
"Yeah, I'm ready to go on. The NBC hype machine has done its job," said Leno.
"The Jay Leno Show" will replace hour long dramas with a nightly hour that's stuffed with even more comedy than his old show.
Leno said, "We'll keep the elements of the Tonight Show that people liked, the monologue.
They like headlines, jaywalking, that stuff and we've added new things as well."
Like a massive new studio that was still being tweaked last week in rehearsals.
"There's always beep! What's with the audio? Beep! Can we hear that? Beep!" said Leno.
The first guest on the new set will be Leno's longtime friend, Jerry Seinfeld.
Leno said, "He's a TV icon, especially here at NBC, and a very funny guy, so it should make the premiere pretty easy. You don't have to worry about the guest being funny."
Music's also covered with Jay-Z, Rihanna, and Kanye West.
"The idea is, you put people together that don't normally work together," said Leno.
Whether Leno's new show works will be up to the viewers.
Leno said, “We're not reinventing the wheel, just putting new tires on it."
Viewers will get to kick those tires tonight.
