This week's wellness tip focuses on relaxation techniques that can help you manage stress and improve your sense of wellbeing.  What toll is stress taking on your health?  Studies by the Benson-Henry Institute at the Massachusetts General Hospital indicate that between 60% and 90% of all physician visits are for conditions that were brought on or worsened by stress. Incorporating basic relaxation techniques into your daily routine can have a lasting, positive impact on your long-term health.

 

Finding relaxation techniques that work for you can have a positive impact on your long-term health, and can help you cope successfully with a medical crisis.  The relaxation response, positive mental imagery and yoga, which were explored in wellness tips during May, are just a few examples of techniques that may reduce the severity of medical conditions such as heart disease and hypertension.  Employing even the simplest relaxation techniques prior to a surgical procedure, such as positive mental imagery or just listening to your favorite music, can set the stage for a speedy recovery with less pain medication and fewer complications.
