(Savannah) A tradition of honoring survivors brought a crowd to the Mary Telfair Pavilion in Savannah today. It's a celebration of hope, courage, and strength to overcome what breast cancer. Surrounded by Survivors, Caregivers, and Mammography Technologists people bought ornaments to hang on the breast cancer awareness tree. Survivor, Dr. Melanie Helmken had the honor of lighting the tree and encouraged the group to continue listening to their angels.
"I'm just very hopeful and grateful for the treatment that they have for cancer patients today. I don't consider myself a cancer patient. I consider myself a survivor and an overcomer," says Survivor Becky Halcomb. "You can't help but be so grateful . You can't make it without a great health team. You can't make it without the support of friends," says Survivor Nancy Cintron. Tree decoration proceeds will pay for breast education materials for community classes.
