EAT-PLAY-LEARN LECTURE SERIES FOR WOMEN
OPENS AT THE COASTAL GEORGIA CENTER IN SAVANNAH
MARLENA SMALLS TO SPEAK ON APRIL 16th
EAT-PLAY-LEARN, a series of lectures and lunches for women, opens Saturday, April 16, 2011 at the Coastal Georgia Center in Savannah. The three-event series has been designed to enlighten, inform, and entertain Savannah area women of all ages.
The April 16th event features Marlena Smalls. A singer, historian, educator, and story-teller, Marlena is the founder of both the world-renowned Hallelujah Singers and The Gullah Festival, which brings over 20,000 visitors to Beaufort, South Carolina annually. As an actress, Marlena is known for her portrayal of Bubba’s mother in the Academy-Awarding film, Forrest Gump. Her presentation is entitled: “Sisters All – Journeys, Challenges, Fulfillment.”
The event, at the Coastal Georgia Center at 305 Fahm Street, begins at 10:30 a.m. with coffee and boutique shopping. Marlena Smalls speaks at 11:00, and lunch follows at noon. Tickets are $35 per person.
On May 21st, the series will feature New York Times bestselling author Karen White. A master of Southern women’s fiction, or ‘grit lit’ as it is sometimes called, Karen is the author of On Folly Beach, A Memory of Water, The House on Tradd Street, and a new novel, The Beach Trees.
On September 16th, Dr. Rebecca Campen, dermatologist and author, will share secrets from her book The Comprehensive Guide to Skin Care: From Acne to Wrinkles: What to Do (and Not Do) to Stay Healthy and Look Your Best.
