While thousands head to the green at Harbour Town this week, they'll also take part in a new effort of "going green."
The Verizon Heritage is always a week full of long time traditions. But this year brings something new -or green- and perhaps it can soon make the long list of expectations.
"We base our tourism basically on eco-tourism and being environmentally friendly and so this is just one more step in reaching that environmental awareness.” Tom Peeples, Mayor of the Town of Hilton Head said.
It's a course-wide recycling program that goes on all week. By placing your trash in the proper bins, you not only help protect the environment, but this project allows the Lowcountry's homeless animals to have a better chance at a better life.
"Cans for Canines is what we're calling it,” said Tournament Director Steve Wilmot. “And we're going to help the Humane Association. So, in association with Waste Management and PGA Wives Association, it's going to be an initiative to help Go Green!"}
Just remember to read the labels, because this isn't meant to be a treasure find.
You can find the recycling bins at all concession stands, skyboxes and other high-traffic areas across Harbour Town Golf Links.
