A spokesman for the South Carolina Army National Guard says about 200 soldiers expected to return this week are still in Kuwait because their flight was canceled.
Colonel Pete Brooks says the members of the 218th Brigade Combat team were expected to arrive at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, on Tuesday after their year in Afghanistan, but the bankruptcy of ATA Airlines left them stranded.
Troops' deployment and return flights are arranged by the Air Force, which contracts with civilian airlines. Brooks says the Guard is confident the Air Force is working to quickly resolve the delay. He had no updated arrival time Wednesday.
The 1,800 soldiers of the 218th are expected to come back in waves through mid-May.
