Authorities are investigating the death of a 25-year-old inmate at a medium-security South Carolina prison.
Corrections Department spokesman Josh Gelinas says Tommie Wilson was stabbed during an altercation with several inmates in a Tyger River Correctional Institution dormitory on Thursday afternoon and died shortly thereafter.
Gelinas says an exact cause of death has not been determined.
Since 2004, Wilson had been serving a 15-year-sentence for multiple crimes, including aggravated assault and trafficking crack cocaine.
The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating his death.
The state prison in Spartanburg County houses about 1,250 inmates.
