Earthquake Tips

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The last earthquake that shook the Coastal Empire in Lowcounty was in 2002. That earthquake had a 4.2 magnitude and the center was 16 miles off Seabrook Island.
In 1903 an earthquake hit closer to home, centering on Tybee Island and having an intensity of 6.

Even though earthquakes are not frequent in this area they can happen at any time anywhere.
Here are some tips from the American Red Cross on how you can be prepared:

  • Choose a safe place in every room where nothing can fall on you

  • Practice drop - cover - and hold on at least twice a year

  • Pick an out of town family contact

  • Inform babysitters and caregivers of your earthquake plan
