The following information was provided Thursday night by the U.S. Marshals Office:

A fugitive wanted by Savannah Police Department for Double Homicide, was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Violent Offender Squad in Houston, Texas based on leads sent to them by the U.S. Marshals Savannah Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force

Jason Castro Gonzales, 23, was being sought on Warrants issued in Savannah, Georgia charging him with two Murders that happened on April 22, 2008 on Linden Drive.  The case was referred to the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force to help locate and arrest this subject.  Numerous leads have been worked by the task force.  New leads generated by the Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force indicated that Gonzales had fled the Savannah, Georgia and was possibly on a bus headed to Texas.  The Savannah Task Force passed the information to the Marshals’ Task Forces in Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio to await possible buses to arrive.  At 9:15 pm members of the Marshals Gulf Coast Violent Offender Squad boarded a bus that had arrived from Louisiana, and found Gonzales.  He was arrested without incident and transported to the Harris County Jail to await extradition proceedings back to Georgia

Annually, investigations carried out by the U.S. Marshals result in the apprehension of approximately 34,000 federal fugitives. More federal fugitives are arrested by the Marshals Service than all other federal agencies combined.

The Savannah Office of the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force is a team comprised of law enforcement officers from the Georgia Department of Corrections, the Chatham County Sheriff=s Department, the Savannah Chatham Metropolitan Police Department, and the United States Marshals Service. The task force objective is to seek out and arrest fugitives charged with violent crimes, drug crimes, sex offenders, and other felonies. Last year, U.S. Marshals task forces arrested more than 27,000 state and local fugitives on felony charges.
