An injured bald eagle that was found in a Wilmington Island man's back yard was released today after more than 6 months of rehab at Auburn University.
Dale Hardie noticed that the eagle, which he named Baldie, was injured back in March. He had been watching Baldie and his mate for the past 3 years. After seeing it was injured he called Georgia DNR.
They later found out that Baldie had fractured his wing after it was hit by a car on Walthour Road. We asked Dale why the release of Baldie today was so special to him.
Dale Hardie, Found Eagle in Back Yard:
"Well, it's a symbol of our nation, it's just one of those things that, um, you know, it's um, most beautiful animal I think of all the birds. They're very beautiful."
The folks at Auburn chose to release Baldie in Dale’s back yard because his mate is there waiting for his return.
