Victory Drive Road Closure

»  Comments | Post a Comment

If you take Victory Drive to get to work during the week, you may want to rethink your route, at least for the next few days.  Victory Drive will be closed until August 9th from Highway 17 to MLK as part of a road widening project.  NEWS 3'S Tristan Tully spoke with one business owner on Victory Drive who says the closure will definitely hurt their sales while the roads are down.

If custom choppers are your thing, Jail House Choppers on Victory Drive is definitely the way to go.  With a crew on hand to cater to your every road hog need, Alan "Dutt" Duttenhoffer, one of the co-owners of the store says that the road closure will really slow down business for them, "It'll definitely affect our service work and our walk up customers.  We get a lot of people going to Tybee, a lot of tourists going to Tybee that are passing through town and just come in to buy T-shirts."

However, Dutt also can look on the bright side of the situation and turn what could be a potential business loss into an opportunity to work on some side projects, "We have about four builds right now that, it'll actually give us a chance to get caught up on the builds, uh, but of course the service work is the bread and butter."

Service work that he was planning on expanding by hiring a new mechanic, but says that might have to be put off now that the roads will slow their progress, "With the roads being closed, I may have to put off, it just depends on how long it'll be closed.  I may have to put off awhile hiring that extra service slash type fabricator guy."

And even though the road will be closed for awhile, once it opens back up, Dutt feels it will be worth the time and slowed business that it took, "It'll definitely give us better exposure with more traffic going by here.  If its progress and it brings more people in, then that'll be great."
