Money is tight for most of us these days and colleges and universities are no exception. Recently, Georgia Tech's Savannah campus started charging students and staff a fee for parking.
We're told by the school that the cost of $100.00 for parking is to help offset costs for maintenance. However, students and faculty aren't exactly happy about the new added fee.
Georgia Tech spokesperson Lisa Grovenstein said this about the parking situation:
"After reviewing its budget, Georgia Tech Savannah determined that it was necessary to recover costs associated with parking maintenance, security and other associated expenses. It was calculated that a fee of a little more than $8 a month per user was needed to cover these annual costs."
Grovenstein also said that it's not just the Savannah campus that has a parking fee, their other campuses all have to pay parking costs.
