Parent Involvement Seminar This Weekend: Get Involved

Parents, get your walking shoes and get involved in your child's life. There's a Walk For Positive Parenthood tomorrow morning and it's followed by 3 days of events to create awareness for the need of parental involvement.
 
“They lay the foundation for the success of their children.  Parents are their children's first teacher and if they are not involved then the teachers within the schools are not going to be able to do their jobs successfully,” explains Dr. Pat Harris, founder and CEO of ELC Collaborative.
 
“We're losing a lot of our children to different avenues in society but we want them to stay involved in school and the parents to be involved in their education,” explains Jenine Barlow, a parent who attended last year’s seminar.
 
The Walk For Positive Parenthood starts at the Civic Center, goes to the school board building and back. Be there by 9:30, the walk starts at 10 a.m.

It is evident that we are losing many children in this chaotic and complex society.   For this reason, Educational Leaders for Change (ELC) Collaborative continues our efforts to develop community initiatives that will foster change within our communities.
 
Educational Leaders for Change (ELC) Collaborative (Educational Service Providers) will host the 4^th Annual “BREAKTHROUGH: An Explosion of Parent Unity in the Community” beginning August 9, 2008 through August 11, 2008. This three day event will provide a doormat for parents to “get involved” with children at home, at school, and in the community. It is the goal of ELC Collaborative to create awareness for the much needed cry for “parental involvement’ by collaborating with parents, disseminating information, gathering needed data, providing support, guidance, and an educational forum that will positively impact the growth and development of youth.
 
In order to bring this annual event to fruition, ELC Collaborative requests the support of the entire community to join our “Walk for Positive Parenthood on Saturday, August 9, 2008. We ask that churches, businesses, community groups, schools, and other organizations join us for this empowerment walk for parental involvement in the lives of children.
