A 19-year-old man is in custody after attempting to rob the Crossroads Convenience store on Staley Avenue this afternoon.
The man walked into the store just after 2:30 p.m. armed with two guns. He got into a struggle with the clerk, who ended up disarming the suspect. The clerk then fired a shot at the suspect who fled the scene, and dropped his second gun that was not loaded. Police arrived and K-9s attempted a track that took them to a nearby house. However, the suspect had apparently left the scene.
At 3:30 p.m., police received a call from Memorial Medical Center that a man had shown up at the hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg. Detectives identified the suspect and have taken him into custody. Charges are imminent.
