Carole Ingram, principal of Beaufort Middle School since 2004, has been named Middle School MetLife/NASSP Principal of the Year by the South Carolina Association of School Administrators.
After two years teaching in Colquitt County, Georgia, Ms. Ingram began her Beaufort County educational career as an English teacher at Robert Smalls Middle School in 1983. She earned the title of Teacher of the Year for the school in 1990. In 1991 she transferred to Lady’s Island Middle School. Over the next ten years she served as English teacher, team leader, grade level leader, and assistant principal. When Beaufort Middle School opened in 2001, she became a part of the new staff as assistant principal. In July 2004 she was named interim principal at Beaufort Middle, and one year later became principal.
“I am still in shock,” said Ms. Ingram, who found out about the award through a visit by Dr. Valerie Truesdale on Friday afternoon. “I have worked with and learned from so many great principals in the middle schools around this state. To be considered on the same level with people whom I respect so much is an awesome compliment. I am truly indebted to Dr. Truesdale for placing my name in nomination with SCASA. I am proud to accept this honor for our county and particularly my staff. They work hard every day for our students.”
“Congratulations to Carole Ingram for this well deserved honor,” exclaimed Dr. Truesdale. “Carole is such a wonderful leader, well respected by staff, students, parents, and most significantly, her peers in the schools and district offices both locally and throughout the state. Coupled with the 2008 Assistant Principal of the Year Jennifer Morillo, I think we can claim Beaufort County’s middle schools are tops.”
She will be recognized at the Board of Education Meeting tomorrow night and at the SCASA Summer Leadership Institute (SLI) on Monday, June 22, where she will be presented a ring to commemorate this honor from The Herff-Jones Company. Ms. Ingram will also be honored at a program in Washington, D.C. during the year.
