CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Charleston Mayor Joe Riley is heading to Chicago to meet with a key member of President-elect Barack Obama's transition team.
Officials from Riley's office say the mayor is meeting Thursday with Valerie Jarrett, co-chair of Obama's transition office.
The mayor is meeting with Jarrett as part of a delegation from the U.S. Conference of Mayors Working Group on Urban Policy.
Officials from Riley's office say that group will offer input to the new administration on developing an office to create strategy for cities and metropolitan areas for the next decade.
Riley has been mayor of Charleston since 1975.
