The following news release was issued Monday, Dec. 22 from the 165th Airlift Wing:
Officials at the Pentagon have released a “Top Secret” memo to the 165th Airlift Wing’s
Commander, Col. Hank Smart, indicating that the jolly old elf himself will be making a
brief visit to the local base at Travis Field and for the base to be placed on special alert
status.
Realizing that the airmen of the 165th have been in near constant deployment for the past
six years in support of the war on terror, Santa indicated to the pentagon brass that he felt
the need to make a special visit to see the children of these airmen. Santa’s schedule is
tight though considering his annual build-up this time of year.
Col. Smart has issued instructions that the children should arrive at the base at noon,
Tuesday, December 23rd where they will be assembled to await Santa’s arrival. In
addition, a free lunch will be served for all of those hoping to catch a glimpse of the
northern visitor.
In a surprise move by Air Force officials, a special invitation has been granted to all
members of the media that would like to meet with Santa as well. For more information
concerning Santa’s expected arrival time, the media can contact MSgt Bucky Burnsed at
the numbers listed above. Media are requested to use the Davidson Avenue gate across
from the Quail Run Lodge on Dean Forest for access to the 165th Airlift Wing.
