Most people think Santa and his elves make all the Christmas toys, but few people know they get pushed for time and sometimes need a little help.
"Santa was in here the other day and gave me a list of the boys and the girls that wanted bicycles. So, I know how many to put together before Christmas," explained Deputy Elf Dave Crossett.
Santa made Dave a deputy elf, and he works in an out-of-the way place far from the North Pole.
In a modest assembly shop at Tifton's Wal Mart that few people know about.
But, why Dave, since the elves have assembled so many bicycles.
"Some of these bikes are bigger than the elves and it's hard to put together when you're working on something larger than you," explained Crossett.
Santa knows he dearly loves bicycles.
A bicycle looks lifeless when pulled from its box.
Dave brings it to life in literally minutes.
Seven year-old Cory Frazier found just the model he'll ask Santa to bring.
"It's awesome," exclaimed Frazier.
He feels the same as Dave feels about all bicycles.
"I've probably put together somewhere in the neighborhood of 500 maybe in the last five weeks," said Crossett.
He puts together as many as 58 a day when rushed, but more like anywhere from 25 to 36 a day, usually.
Most people would see numerous bicycles and perhaps remember a Christmas Eve or two when Santa needed some help putting them together.
But, Dave sees something else. He sees artwork.
THE VIVID COLORS AND PATTERNS GET HIS ATTENTION.
HE LOVE’S HELPING SANTA AND THE ELVES.
"I couldn't have a better job," said Crossett.
Dave is a deputy elf who helps kids roll with joy on Christmas Day.
