Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police are investigating the shooting death of a man in the 2200 block of Utah Street. The victim has been identified as 38-year-old Tavin Barlow of Savannah.
Metro officers responded to the home after a report of gunfire shortly after 10:30 a.m. Thursday. When they arrived, the officers found the victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
Paramedics rushed him to the Memorial Health University Medical Center, where he died shortly after arrival.
Metro officers combed the eastside neighborhood where witnesses reported seeing a young black male fleeing from the home. He is described as 5-feet-6, slender build with a low haircut, possibly in his teens. He was last seen running on Utah Street wearing a dark brown hooded sweater or shirt with a white T-shirt underneath and blue jeans.
Police searched the area, but found no suspects matching the description. However, detectives are following some additional leads provided by witnesses.
The body was taken to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy. Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to call Metro violent crime detectives at 651-6728; or call CrimeStoppers, 234-2020.
