One man was killed in a vehicle accident in Hinesville on Tuesday afternoon, and another was flown by helicopter to a Savannah hospital.
According to Hinesville Traffic Investigators Lt. Max McLendon and Cpl Scott Hensler, Royce Anderson, 63, a prominent businessman in Glennville, was killed when the 2008 Nissan Altima he was riding in collided with another vehicle at the intersection of Bacon and Fleming roads.
McLendon said the accident occurred around 1:23 p.m. when Marion Adams, 60, was traveling southbound on Bacon Road. Adams, who lives on Fleming Road, attempted to make a left turn at the intersection and collided with Jeanie Anderson. Ms. Anderson was driving northbound with former husband Royce Anderson in the passenger seat and family friend Pat Burkhalter in the left rear seat.
Hensler, who is heading the investigation, said there was no evidence that either Royce Anderson or Burkhalter were wearing seatbelts at the time of the impact.
"The impact, from what we could determine, caused Royce Anderson’s death," said McLendon. Royce Anderson was pronounced dead at Liberty Regional Medical Center in Hinesville. Burkhalter, who sustained severe injuries, was transported to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah by Life Star. He is listed in critical condition, McLendon said.
Adams, who was taken to Winn Army Community Hospital, suffered a broken ankle, and Jeanie Anderson was treated at Liberty Regional Medical Center for minor injuries.
Royce Anderson was the director of South Georgia Bank and Tattnall Insurance in Glennville.
