»  Comments | Post a Comment

A man is behind bars, after authorities say he attacked a Savannah-Chatham officer.

Police tell us 49-year-old Barry Leon Williams was arrested for public drunkenness and battery, behind a convenience store on Largo Drive and Abercorn Street Tuesday.

We're told Williams was taken into custody and was transported to the Chatham County Jail.

As williams was being booked, officials removed his handcuffs, that's when police say Williams punched the arresting officer.

He was immediately subdued and transported to a cell.

Authorities say Williams faces up to a year in jail.

The officer was treated for injuries and has since returned to duty.
