Mitchell Bieber is accused of stabbing his younger brother and his parents last spring. His brother died of the wounds.
Bieber's trial was set to begin in Effingham County this Thursday, Feb. 28, and a jury was already selected. But today, the teen waived his right to a trial and pleaded guilty to murder, cruelty to a child, and three counts of aggravated assault.
Judge William Woodrum, Jr. sentenced Beiber to life in prison plus 20 years.
Bieber's appearance has changed during his time in jail; today he had twists in his hair, a beard, and a tattoo on the side of his neck. His hands were cuffed and his ankles shackled.
His mother made an emotional plea to the court, "I love my son. I forgive my son." She said she hopes he'll have an opportunity for parole someday.
When Mitchell Bieber took the stand, he said, "What happened was wrong. I wish I could take it back."
His attorney, Robert Persse, asked him what happened that night. Bieber responded, "I believe it was the drugs." Cocaine and Zanax were found in Bieber's system after his arrest.
