Pooler Man Killed in New Year's Eve Accident

Savannah-Chatham Metro Police are investigating a single-car crash that killed the driver and sent four passengers to the hospital. The crash occurred on Shipyard and Lehigh roads shortly before 11 p.m. Monday. 



Jonathan Lee Vadi, 19, of Pooler, was driving north on Shipyard in his Dodge Dakota pickup when he lost control and struck a large oak tree.

 

Paramedics rushed Vadi and four of his passengers to Memorial Health University Medical Center. Vadi died shortly after arrival.

 

Passengers, Brittany Lynn, 17, of Savannah, and Brandon Sawyer, 19, of Pooler, were admitted with serious injuries. Robert Bishop, 19, of Bloomingdale, was treated and released. Justin Smith, 15, of Pooler, was checked and not injured.

 

The roadway remained closed for several hours while police investigated and cleared the debris. Investigators are still in the process of determining the cause of the fatal crash.
