Morning Fire Damages Savannah Apartment

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Authorities are investigating a fire that heavily damaged an apartment earlier today.

Crews responded to the Allen Apartments complex on West 54th Street, near Montgomery just before 10:30am.  When they arrived on scene, smoke and flames could be seen coming out of the structure.

Firefighters were able to get the scene under control quickly, but not before the apartment suffered smoke and water damage.

We're told seven people lived in the apartment, but fortunately no injuries have been reported.  The Red Cross is assisting the victims.

Fire officials say none of the surrounding apartments were affected.

The cause is believed to be from a discarded cigarette in an upstairs bedroom.
