A Lowcountry family is displaced after a fire destroyed their home. It happened around 8:30 Sunday morning on Shanklin Road in Burton.
Firefighters got there in less than four minutes, but by that time the home was already engulfed in flames.
Firefighters say a space heater too close to flammable objects started the fire. Remember, space heaters are a leading cause of fire. So before you turn one on:
Read the instructions and make sure it's in working order.
Set the heater up at least three feet away from bedding, furniture and curtains.
If you leave the room or go to sleep, make sure you turn it off.
