For the second time in three days, a fire has left a Beaufort county family without a home. The fire department was called to the scene around eight this morning to a home at 20 Toro Lane. Firefighters found the fast-moving fire spreading through a single-wide mobile home. They brought the fire under control within 45-minutes.. Fortunately no one was home at the time.
While the cause of the fire is still under investigation, the Burton Fire District is reminding neighbors to make sure all electrical heat-producing appliances like space heaters are turned off and unplugged when you leave the house. Over the weekend - a home on Shanklin road was destroyed after a space heater was placed too close to flammable objects. Nationwide, it's estimated that each year about four-thousand people died and 20,000 are hurt in house fires.
