One of Georgia's most wanted fugitives is now behind bars.
But it wasn't easy getting him there.
A tip - leading the FBI and local police to one of Lake View's apartments early Friday - where Derrick Duffy was believed to be. Investigators say he's been on the run since September.
"Mr. Duffy was wanted for a number of violent crimes out of Atlanta including rape," explains Sgt. Mike Wilson, Savannah-Chatham Metro Police Spokesperson.
As agents approached - police say Duffy barricaded himself and his girlfriend inside.
SWAT team members - arriving soon after, suiting up. An unexpected sight for neighbors here. "I woke up to leave my house and saw three SWAT members in front of my door!" recalls Sheri Walker.
Walker lives right next door to the suspect.
"I see people go in and out, but I don't know them. It's kinda scary to know there's someone right next door to you with something like that," she adds.
Walker is one of hundreds of neighbors told to stay clear of the area until Duffy was in cuffs. That happened five hours later.
Duffy's girlfriend -- 31 year old Telishia Barnes -- surrendering.
Then officers moved inside.
"At around 1230 they introduced gas into the apartment and took Duffy into custody," says Sgt. Wilson.
Police - finding the fugitive in an attic crawl space.
