Staying healthy is important to all of us, especially our senior citizens. Their 2008 health calendar came out today at a local release party. 3 On Your Side's Tristan Tully was there, and shows us how it all works.
Fit and active. That's the message some seniors are trying to get out to their fellow gracefully aging neighbors. And for the sixth year in a row a group lead by the Chatham County Health Department has released an Immunization and Preventive Health Calendar to help seniors keep track of their health issues. Carl Looper, or half of Mister July knows how helpful the calendar can be, "If you read it, it's got a lot of local information in it. You don't have to fool with the phone books just go straight to the calendar and get the special phone numbers that you need."
And, to say the least, he is very proud of his big calendar debut, "I think it's pretty great. It's a first time for me. I'm going to send all my aunts and uncles a copy of it so they can see me all year long."
Carl isn't the only pin-up that was happy to be a part of the project, "Yes! This is my first time I so excited, what an honor it was when they called and asked me if I would do this. It has just been really wonderful."
Miss May, or Sandra Wells, who is also Miss Senior Savannah says that she thinks the key to healthy living is to go, do, and stay involved, "You have to keep going if you want to stay young - and that's what we want to do - to stay active and to stay healthy."
Carl couldn't agree more, "Just cause you're an elderly it's no sign to sit down and watch tv all the time. Get out there and do things. You've got to stay active. If you rest, you rust.
Good advice for people of any age.
Each page of the calendar has important information and reminders for our older neighbors. 15,000 of these calendars will be distributed through out Chatham, Effingham and Glynn counties.
