Big brother is watching you, and that's a good thing at one Savannah intersection.
The Savannah Chatham Police Department has a new weapon aimed at deterring crime and hopefully catching a killer.
The surveillance camera is on the corner of 35th and Waters Avenue. It's the sight of three homicides since 2005, the latest happening on January 6th.
The police say the camera will allow them to monitor and record all activities that occur in the area twenty four hours a day.
The camera, which is hooked onto a light pole, can be controlled from on any computer.
While the police department has several cameras up throughout the city, this is the first one to be used for this reason.
“For public safety reasons we want to beef up as much patrolling in that area as possible and using the camera is just an additional tool or aid for the officers who patrol that area,” says Major Juliette Tolbert of the SCMPD.
The latest killing in the area claimed the life of 51-year-old Edward Robinson several days ago.
Police say two other men have been shot and killed in the same area since 2005. The police hope the new camera will give them some clues in Robinson's death.
