It's been a source of hope for our community. The Georgia Infirmary, founded by Thomas Frank Williams, is 175 years old and still going strong. This historic day brought back many memories of the first African American hospital in the nation. After segregation, the Georgia Infirmary became a hospital for all people. Thomas Frank Williams' descendants were there as a marker was unveiled for the contributions their family made to the hospital.
Mary Williams Hartford says the celebration is meaningful.
"I know that God's going to let my Daddy listen to this. He would be so proud. I'm just a hundred percent sure he would be so proud."
The Georgia Infirmary now serves as an adult day center.
Services include help for stroke victims, and rehab for aging, blind, and disabled individuals.
