Morning Fire Leaves 7 Homeless

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Flames break out in the 600-block of West 39th Street.  Emergency crews arrived to find fire shooting out the side of the end unit of a stretch of boarding houses.

It spread into the attic of an adjoining unit.  Officials believe the fire started on the stove.

"The occupant of the fire unit advised us he had been cooking and that the fire, maybe some grease or something caught on the stove.  We will have an investigator come out and make those determinations.  Because of the extent of damage we can't really determine that for sure," says Savannah Fire's Captain Matt Stanley.

We're told seven people were displaced.  The Red Cross is helping them.

Noone was seriously hurt.
