Fights at Savannah High, One Student to Hospital

A 17-year old student is recovering from injuries after a fight at Savannah High School. Now, police are trying to figure out who jumped him.
 
Campus Police tell us it happened shortly after a fight broke out between two female students.
 
3 On Your Side Education Reporter, Randi Hempel was there and has the latest on the incident.
 
"All after school activities are cancelled for this evening." An announcement goes over the loudspeaker at Savannah High School.
 
This is the announcement savannah high students heard while still on lock down as Campus and Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police patrol the halls before dismissal all after two fights, minutes apart.
 
“I was walking out of my classroom and they were like there's a fight, there's a fight on the steps, and I ran down there and seen the girl on the steps and they was fighting.” Freshman, April Jenkins tells us her account of this afternoon.
 
But that was only the beginning.
 
“Moments later, a 17 year-old male student was attacked by at least 7 unidentified male assailants.” Chief Ulysses Bryant of the Campus Police Department briefs us.
 
It was here in the hall to the left of the gym; shards of glass and small streams of blood show where his head was slammed into the trophy case.
 
“I think the kids are out of control and something needs to be done about it. I don't think they should be allowed back in this school after a fight like this.” Comments Willa Solomon, grandmother of April Jenkins.
 
School officials and Campus Police have yet to identify the students who they say jumped the 17 year old. They school doesn't have surveillance cameras. They're actually slated to get them some time this year. Chief Bryant says maybe they could have helped.
 
“Surveillance cameras when they're working properly and we're getting the right resolution, they are very good investigative tools and in most instances they're great deterrents.” Explains Chief Bryant.
 
“I think they should get them soon, I think the kids would do a lot less if they knew a camera was watching.” Adds grandma.
