DECATUR, Ga. (AP) - DeKalb County police said today they have made a second arrest in the deaths of two off-duty officers who were working security jobs at an apartment complex and are looking for at least one more person.
Police Chief Terrell Bolton announced during a news conference that 28-year-old Deanthius Jamal Johnson of Decatur was taken to the DeKalb County Jail this morning. He is charged with two counts of murder in the shooting deaths early yesterday of 26-year-old Ricky Bryant Junior and 33-year-old Eric Barker at Glenwood Gardens apartments.
Johnson is the second person arrested in connection with the deaths, which police say apparently occurred after an ambush.
Police spokesman Officer Jonathan Ware said that around 7:30 p.m. yesterday 32-year-old Herbie Deshawn Durham was charged with two counts of murder.
Bolton has declined to give specifics of how the officers were killed.
Today Bolton made another appeal to the public for information about the officers' killings.
Authorities say a reward of up to $60,000 is being offered for information leading to arrests and convictions in the case.
