Carbon monoxide from heaters kills SC man at Pa. hotel
ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) - Authorities say a 63-year-old Hilton Head Island man has died from carbon monoxide poisoning at a Pennsylvania hotel.
Officials say Philip Prechtel was killed by the odorless gas after a construction canopy outside the hotel trapped carbon monoxide from hot water heater vents, forcing it back into the building.
The Best Western Allentown Inn & Suites in Allentown was evacuated. Carbon monoxide levels were so high that rescuers were forced to retreat until the hotel could be ventilated.
Police say four guests were hospitalized while two police officers and three paramedics were treated as a precaution.
